H.B. (Howie) Dingle
Vice President, Operations
Imperial Oil Limited
Howie Dingle is vice president, operations, for
Imperial Oil Limited’s resources division, based in Calgary.
Howie was born in Norman Wells, Northwest
Territories, Canada. He graduated from The University of Calgary with
degrees in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. In 1971, he joined
Imperial Oil’s Engineering Division in Sarnia, Ontario, and was
transferred to Imperial Oil’s Production Department in Calgary in
1976.
From 1978 through 1980, Howie successively
supervised a number of engineering sections in the Production Department
and then spent one year as the Business Automation Coordinator.
In 1981, Howie was transferred to Red Deer as Area
Manager of Esso’s conventional oil and gas production operations in
southern Alberta.
In 1983, he was transferred to Cold Lake, Alberta
as District Manager of Esso’s in-situ oil sands pilot and commercial
operations.
Howie was transferred back to Calgary in 1987 as
Engineering Manager for Esso’s Cold Lake Operations, followed in 1990
with an appointment as General Manager, Oil Sands.
In 1991, he
was appointed Manager, Research and Technology, responsible for all
research and technology development for Imperial Oil Resources.
In 1994, Howie was appointed Manager, Technical
Services, responsible for providing technical services to Imperial Oil
Resources.
In 1995, Howie was appointed Vice President and
General Manager, Oil Sands, responsible for all Imperial’s oil sands
research, development and operations.
On October 1, 1998, Howie was appointed to his
current position, with responsibility for all of Imperial’s
conventional oil and natural gas, oil sands, joint venture, and
operated-by-others operations, which represented production of 330 kboe/d
in 1998.
Howie is past President of Board of Directors of
the Petroleum Research Institute of Calgary, past President of the
Canadian Heavy Oil Association, and past, founding Co-Chair of the
Canadian Oil Sands Network for Research and Development (CONRAD). Howie
is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the C-FER Technologies,
Inc.
Howie is Chairman of the Advisory Committee to the
Department of Chemical and petroleum Engineering at The University of
Calgary, past Chair of the Project Management
Advisory Committee at The University of Calgary, and a member of
the Advisory Committees to the Faculty of Graduate Studies and the
Faculty of Management at The University of Calgary. He was recently
appointed the founding Chairman of the Advisory Committee to the Project
Management Council of the Confederate Board of Canada.
Howie is a member of the Association of
Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta.
He is also a Director of Junior Achievement of
Southern Alberta.
