Petro Canada

Petro-Canada is a major Canadian oil and gas company with a market capitalization at year-end 2000 of about $9.7 billion and a strong reputation for environmental stewardship and corporate responsibility. With a portfolio of businesses that span the Upstream and Downstream sectors, Petro-Canada is a leader in the Canadian petroleum industry. In the Upstream, Petro-Canada explores for, develops, produces and markets crude oil, natural gas and associated liquids. In the Downstream, Petro-Canada refines, distributes and markets petroleum products and related goods and services.

Our four core businesses are:

Oil exploration, development and production offshore Newfoundland;
Oil sands production and development in northern Alberta;
Natural gas exploration and production in western Canada;
Refining and marketing of petroleum products, including lubricants.
On July 30, 2000 Petro-Canada celebrated its silver anniversary. In the year 2001 Petro-Canada announced record earnings ($893 million) and cash flow ($1.8 billion) for 2000. Drilling began on the first natural gas exploration well in the Mackenzie Delta in more than a decade.
