Junior
Achievement of the Bahamas operates the Company Program where it began
operations in 1979. Since that time they have successfully touched the
lives of over 10,000 young Bahamians.The organization operates with a staff of three.The Bahamas have a population of 300,000 who speak English.
The
staff of JA Bahamas believes that Junior Achievement has assisted
greatly in building character in their youth.In addition, the programs expose teenagers to entrepreneurship
and the Bahamian Free Enterprise System.
Pirates, corsairs and privateers found the Bahamas to
be a good base from which to plunder vulnerable merchant ships. Among
the brigands using the islands were Edward Teach (Blackbeard),
“Calico” Jack Rakham, Henry Morgan, Major Bonnet and women
buccaneers such as Anne Bonney (Calico jack’s mistress) and Mary Reed.
