Saint Lucia is an island in the
Caribbean sea, which is south of Florida and the U.S. gulf states. With
a population of 100,000, Junior Achievement of St. Lucia is able to
impact on one tenth of it’s citizens.
Established in 1996, JA St. Lucia operates with a staff of 1, and
effectively contributes to the development of students. The skills
learned through the JA programs teach students how to shape the economy
of a nation, as well as their futures.

It was believed for a long time that Christopher
Columbus had landed on the island of Saint Lucia in 1502, but historians
now think that he never even went to the island. The real date of the
discovery of Saint Lucia is unknown, even though December 13th
(the date of the hypothetical discovery by Columbus) is still a national
holiday. It is probable that Juan De La Cosa, a former companion of
Columbus, came ashore in Saint Lucia in either 1499 or 1504, even if
there is no mention of the stop in his ship’s log book. |
